The one rule
A genuine employer does not charge you to apply, to be interviewed, or to be hired. Anyone who asks you to pay for a job is not offering you a job.
Warning signs
- You are asked to pay a “registration”, “processing”, “training” or “medical” fee before an interview or offer.
- The offer arrives without an interview, or after a chat that asked nothing about your skills.
- Pay is far above what the role normally earns, for very little work.
- You are pushed to decide today, or told the place will go to someone else within hours.
- Contact is only by WhatsApp or a personal number, and the “company” has no address you can check.
- The email comes from a free address while claiming to be a large organisation.
- You are asked for your ID, bank or M-Pesa PIN “for payroll” before any contract.
Check before you trust
- Search the organisation's name with the word “scam”, and look for its own website and physical address.
- Call the organisation on a number from its own website — not the one in the message — and ask whether the role exists.
- Read the contract before you start. A real employer gives you one.
- Never share a PIN or one-time code with anybody, whoever they say they are.
On CareerCraft Connections
Applying to an internship or job through us is always free. For attachment placement, the only payment is the placement fee shown in your account, paid through an M-Pesa prompt sent from inside your account — never to a personal number.
Some listings link to employers' own adverts. If anything about one looks wrong, report it to us and do not pay anyone.
